Stone Art Workshops for up to 35 participants
My stone art workshops introduce children, adults, and seniors alike to the joy of working with stone. The workshops are surprisingly easy to arrange and set up at your group’s meeting location within the Greater Toronto Area. I bring all the tools and stone material needed for a group of up to 35 participants.
During our 100 minute session, participants will create a small simple stone art carving to take home as a keepsake.
Projected Learning Outcomes
For art teachers wishing to add a stone sculpture activity to their art program these workshops have the following projected learning outcomes. During this workshop students will:
- Design an art image.
- Convert a visual image into a 3 dimensional object.
- Create a bas-relief or 3-d sculpture.
- Understand what makes a “good” sculpture.
- Learn to use shadows and texture, planes and lines for emphasis.
- Be familiar with sculpting “best practices”.
- Be adept at using tools and various carving techniques.
- Appreciate the skill and effort required to create a sculpture.
Participants are provided with an explanation and demonstration of how to use tools, select a stone, design an image, practice various carving and sculpting techniques, and finishing.
Whether you are interested on behalf of a:
- senior’s centre
- youth group
- group of friends
My workshops are an entertaining, creative, and educational way to spend an afternoon or evening with friends. Participants will learn the basic techniques for composing a small carving out of alabaster and other soft stones. It’s an ideal way to introduce children and adults alike to the art of stone carving for the first time. A “Stone Carving Night” lends a unique twist to the paint night concept at a local restaurant with a group of your friends.
